2019 World Junior silver medalists Apollinariia Panfilova/Dmitry Rylov led the Russian Junior Pairs to the third podium sweep at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final Saturday in Torino (ITA). Diana Mukhametzianova/Ilya Mironov took the silver and the bronze went to Kseniia Akhanteva/Valerii Kolesov.

Skating to the “Third Person” soundtrack, Panfilova/Rylov produced a huge triple twist, a double Axel-Euler-double Salchow, throw triple flip as well as spectacular lifts. However, Panfilova fell on the throw triple loop. The 2019 World Junior silver medalists were ranked second in the Free Skating with 116. 43 points, but overall remained in at 185.23 points.
“Right after our performance we didn’t feel so good and I guess everyone knows why. After everyone had skated, we were happy that we won. We had a silver and bronze from the Junior Final and to complete the collection we now got the gold,” Panfilova commented.

Mukhametzianova/Mironov delivered a strong performance to “Chess” that included a triple Lutz-double toe-double toe, a triple flip, throw triple flip and Salchow as well as a level-four reverse lasso lift. The team from Perm achieved a personal best score of 118.47 points to win the Free Skating and pulled up from third to second at 184.37 points overall.
“This was our first Junior Final and we have very positive emotions. It’s our best performance by points so far but not the best by the quality for sure. We are going to work on our skating skills and the quality of pair elements like height and clean landings because without these things our programs don’t look complete in our opinion,” Mironov shared.

Akhanteva/Kolesov’s program to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” featured a triple twist, throw triple flip and loop, but the team struggled with the solo jumps. With 113.04 points, they were ranked fourth in the Free Skating and slipped from second to third at 179.68 points overall.
“We showed like 60 percent of what we can do. We basically lost two elements and we’re quite upset with our performance. Obviously, it is nice to be on the podium. It is our own fault that we didn’t do better,” Kolesov said.
Iuliia Artemeva/Mikhail Nazarychev (RUS) finished fourth on 178.56 points followed by Alina Pepeleva/Roman Pleshkov (RUS) on 172.53 points and Annika Hocke/Robert Kunkel (GER) who had 159.22 points.
