The short track speed skating competition at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games concluded in Sochi on Friday with the Men 500m Final, Ladies 1000m Final and Men 5000m Relay Final.

Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova skated off with the gold medal, dethroning 2010 Olympic Champion Yuna Kim of Korea and winning the first Olympic ladies title for her country. Carolina Kostner of Italy earned the bronze medal, the first Olympic figure skating medal in single skating for Italy.

Yuna Kim of Korea edged out Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova and Carolina Kostner of Italy for a narrow lead in the Ladies Short Program. The top three are virtually tied with just a few tenths of a point between them.
In the Ladies’ 3000 m and four years after their disqualification team Korea regained its spot atop the podium. Referees disqualified China for impeding, promoting Canada to silver and Italy to bronze.
The Dutch Speed Skating power house sweeps the podium for the fourth time at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Jorrit Bergsma (NED) won the men’s 10,000m in an Olympic record time of 12:44.45 which is also a new track record and personal best time. The favourite Sven Kramer finished in second and 37 year old Bob de Jong got the bronze medal.
Meryl Davis/Charlie White (USA) danced off with the gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at the Iceberg Skating Palace on Monday, winning the first Olympic Ice Dance gold for the USA. 2010 Olympic champions Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir of Canada earned the silver medal and Russia’s Elena Ilinykh/Nikita Katsalapov claimed the bronze.
Following the withdrawal of the Norwegian and the Russian Teams in preparation for the team pursuit the draw today delivered no big surprises.
