Two Ukrainian skaters will compete at the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2022 in Gdansk this weekend after a dramatic escape from the Russian invasion.
The ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, (CAN) have been postponed to April 8-10, 2022
The 2022 ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships take place at the Hala Olivia, Gdansk, Poland, from March 4-6. The competition will award medals over 500m, 1000m and 1500m for both genders, with a 3000m Relay for Women and a 5000m Relay for Men.
Following the recent worldwide developments (Covid-19 pandemic and Ukrainian crisis), the ISU and Speed Skating Canada are currently considering a postponement of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, CAN from March 18-20, 2022, to the first part of April 2022.
The ISU Council reiterates its solidarity with all those affected by the conflict in Ukraine and our thoughts are with the entire Ukrainian people and country. The ISU Council reaffirms its full solidarity with the ISU Members in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Speed Skating Federation and the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation. The ISU Council will evaluate possibilities for swift humanitarian assistance to its Ukrainian ISU Members.

The ISU Council met on February 24, 2022 via an online meeting. The following were among the decisions taken by the Council during the meeting.
Minjeong Choi of Korea and the Canadian Men’s Relay Team around Charles Hamelin raced to victory as the Short Track competition at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games concluded Wednesday with the Women’s 1500m and Men’s 5000m Relay at the Capital Indoor Stadium.
“Flying Dutchwoman” Suzanne Schulting (NED) is aiming at a fourth medal in the 1500m at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, while the Men enter an open battle for the 5000m Relay as the Olympic Short Track competition concludes Wednesday at the Beijing Capital Indoor Stadium.
Based on the IOC Executive Board Decision, the IOC requests the International Skating Union (ISU) for reasons of fairness to allow a 25th competitor to participate in the Women Single Skating Free Skating of the competition on February 17, in case Ms. Valieva is ranked in the first 24 of the Short Pogram on February 15.
